How to Make a Cornshuck Garland

This is super simple to do.  You will need Corn shucks and some string, cord or twine. You can buy bags of corn shucks in the Produce or Spanish food departments of most grocery stores and Wal-Mart.   You will have to soak your shucks in warm water for at least 30 minutes to get them soft and pliable.  Once they are soaked you want to tear them in strips about ¾ of an inch wide.  Then all you do is wrap and knot them around your string.  As you wrap you will need to get them as close together as possible because when they dry they will shrink some and you don’t want a lot of space between each one.

Once the strips dry you can crinkle them with your hands and this will make it much fuller.  This garland will keep indefinitely if you store it in an airtight container.

*You can dye the cornshucks while they are soaking.  Just add some food coloring to the water.  But be careful not to stain your clothing or furniture.
